Will only 4 days to go until the opening night, I will be posting a daily interview with a member from the cast and crew of Hot Mikado.
The show is on at the Alban Arena from Tues 10th May until Sat 14th May and is being performed by members of the St Albans Operatic Society.
Today we focus on Louisa Stevens who is playing ‘Yum Yum’ the star of the Titipu night club.
So Louisa, how did you first get involved in musicals? This is only the second musical I have done. Having acted for many years I thought I’d have a go at something a bit more scary. Who decided that singing and dancing at the same time was a good idea? I’ll just be happy if I get through it without falling over.
How would you describe your character in Hot Mikado?
Yum-Yum is pretty easy to do a character study on. She’s just a bit shallow and narcissistic, really. No point going much more in-depth than that! It’s a musical after all.
How does she compare to you?
Considering the above, I hope Yum-Yum doesn’t compare too greatly to me!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not involved in a show.
When I’m not on stage my time is taken up with being a mama, and working as creative director of a youth theatre school.
If you could be any character from a musical, who would it be and why?
It would probably be Galinda in Wicked. She’s even more vacuous than Yum-Yum.
